Minutes and matters arising:The minutes of the meeting held on 20.1.06 were agreed as an accurate record of the meeting. AttendanceRon Blank welcomed everyone to the meeting. Attendance for the meeting was disappointing and the issue is still a cause for concern. All agreed that if there is not enough support for the group in the future, it will not be worth continuing the meetings. Although RB was uncomfortable with his election being agreed by only three members of the forum, he was happy to drive the group if meetings are well supported in the future. Name of Athletics Coaches ForumRB felt that the name ‘Armada Athletics Coaches Forum’ did not link appropriately with the East Cornwall and West Devon Forum’. All agreed to discuss the issue at the next meeting when more members of the group are present. KAE to add item to the agenda of the next meeting. KAE To receive an update from Devon Co-ordinator regarding up and coming coaching coursesLance Chatfield provided the following update by email: 1. Core Stability - 28.03.06 - 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm, Windsor House, Plymouth. £25 per person. Contact Karen Little (01752 307137) Course is highly recommended for coaches. 2. All entries should be sent to Bill Whistlecroft (a copy of the application form and address can be obtained from the UK Athletics website). The course needs 18 applicants to run. All applicants must be 16 years of age and over and the closing date is 14.6.06. There are opportunities available for top coaches to come to Plymouth to lead courses/workshops; however more support is needed from members of this group to ensure that these events are successful. RB asked member clubs to provide a list of priorities of the type of events/coaching courses that they would like to see the Coaches Athletics forum organise. There are plans to set up an evening meeting on the second Tuesday of every month (starting in April and finishing in September). The programme will consist of three disciplines e.g. a sprint, a throw and a distance run for different age categories e.g. Primary school children, secondary school children and seniors. The programme from each meet may vary to make it more interesting and more fun e.g. fun relays. RB proposed approaching DML regarding sponsorship of the meetings e.g. provision of a mini bus to transport young athletes to each meet. All members of the group were happy with RB’s suggestion to postpone the Jumps and Throws workshop until the end of the season and to focus more attention on getting this programme up and running. ALLRB/JC Coach Education and MentoringA discussion ensued regarding different forms of Coach mentoring e.g. coach mentoring with athletes or coaches learning from watching other coaches during training sessions. The majority of those present preferred the option of coach mentoring with athletes demonstrating different disciplines. Coaches were welcome to bring young athletes to sessions at Brickfields track on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6.30 p.m. Any other businessFirst Aid Course: PAC have organised a First Aid course which is scheduled to take place on 26 March 2006. David Dane is keen to attend the course. RB advised DD to contact Steve Endacott. The attendance fee is £15 per person and there are currently 5 places available. SE advised DD to wear comfortable clothing on the day. Members of the Coaches Forum to canvass interest amongst their club members. If enough interest is expressed from athletes/coaches, PAC would consider organising another First Aid course.CRB Checks: JC reminded all coaches that it is important for them to get their CRB checks done a.s.a.p.
